[It's been a few days since they'd confirmed Lily's pregnancy (and confirmed it again with a Healer) and Remus' growing worry that the baby was his and that he'd passed on his condition was getting overwhelming. The stress was leaving him looking even more ill than usual, a lack of good sleep only making things worse. Still he tried to hide it from his partners. They were already all worried about the practicalities of how to have and raise a child safely during a war, of all the ways this could be turned against them, all the ways it could go wrong.
There was so much that could go horribly wrong here. He didn't need to add to that.
So he kept it to himself, kept it to moments like this when he knew he'd be alone for a bit, tearing at his hair and pacing the flat like a caged animal in between obsessively checking the oven. He'd busied himself with baking the muggle way, a stress habit he'd picked up from his mother.
After all, clearly anyone entering the flat and smelling baking cookies couldn't possibly think he was struggling to deal with this.]
